Crimes Investigated
In July of 2024, Officers fielded 2,171 incident and took 165 reports. We arrested 94 people, 76 for misdemeanors and 18 for felonies, issued 275 criminal, traffic, and parking citations, and conducted 167 traffic enforcement stops. Between August 1st and August 23th, we took 109 reports, made 61 arrests, issued 138 citations, and conducted 136 traffic stops.
Between July 2nd and July 22nd, Officers fielded 1,445 incidents. There were 357 calls for service and 1,088 were self-initiated incidents. CPD officers took 102 reports ranging from possession of stolen vehicles, thefts, commercial burglaries, possession of firearms, narcotics, outstanding warrants, and driving under the influence of alcohol. There were 62 suspects arrested.
On July 26th, Officers responded to the Nissan dealership on a report of an individual attempting to use a false identification to purchase a vehicle valued at $45,000. CPD Officers arrived on scene and conducted an investigation. They learned the suspect Francisco Ernest Romero used a fraudulent identification and the victim’s social security number in a credit application. Romero was subsequently placed under arrest for identity theft, false personation, giving false identification to a police officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, and a warrant. He was transported and booked into the San Mateo County jail.
On July 27th, CPD Officer conducted a traffic stop on the 400 Block of Serramonte Boulevard for a traffic violation. Upon contact with the driver Jennifer Manriquez, Officer smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her person. Manriquez failed a series of field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. She was transported to a sobering facility and issued a promise to appear citation.
Between August 1st through August 9th, Officers fielded 669 incidents. There were 139 calls for service and 530 officer initiated incidents. Officers took a total of 40 cases ranging from assaults, robberies, petty theft, and warrant arrest.
On August 3rd, CPD Officers responded to a theft of $351.03 worth of merchandise that had just occurred at a business in the Metro Center. CPD Officers located the two suspects, Rhiannon Cherf and Cody Heisickbaton, in a nearby area attempting to flee on foot. Both suspects were placed under arrest for the theft. An incident-to-arrest search was conducted, which revealed both were in possession of drug paraphernalia and narcotics. Heisickbaton and Cherf were issued a citation for the violations mentioned above. Cherf was transported to the San Mateo County Jail and booked for a felony warrant.
On August 6th, Officers responded to Carmax for a disturbance caused by Tyler Mongelli. Carmax management requested that Mongelli be escorted off the property. CPD Officers arrived on the scene and contacted Mongelli, who complied with the officers. A records check revealed that Mongelli had a felony warrant issued by the San Jose State Police Department for fraud. Mongelli was placed under arrest for his warrant and transported to the San Mateo County Jail without further incident.
On August 8th, two unidentified suspects entered a store located inside the Metro Center and stole $8,867.62 worth of merchandise. The suspects fled prior to CPD arrival in a silver SUV. Upon further investigation CPD officers were able to gather investigative leads and this case is ongoing.
On August 9th, a known theft suspect, Tony Venegas returned to a business at the Metro Center, where he stole $250.00 worth of merchandise. The suspect fled prior to CPD arrival but was identified by the store manager from prior thefts. A report was sent to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office for the issuance of a warrant for the suspect on the charges of felony burglary and organized retail theft.
Between August 10th through August 23rd, Officers fielded 1,078 incidents. There were 290 calls for service and 788 officer initiated incidents. Officers took a total of 75 cases ranging from thefts, driving under the influence, narcotics and fraud.
On August 10th, Freddy Benavidez was observed driving on the 1300 Block of Mission Road without his vehicle’s headlights or taillights on at night. A traffic enforcement stop was initiated, which revealed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from Benavidez’s vehicle. CPD officers conducted a subsequent investigation, and it was concluded that Benavidez was driving a motor vehicle over the legal limit. He was cited and released to the care of a sober facility.
On August 12th, CPD Officers were conducting a foot patrol of a business in the Metro Center and while standing near the store’s exit, they were notified that Kiayleah Ammon and Eric Asti had concealed $328.10 worth of merchandise. CPD Officers observed both suspects exiting the store and could hear the security tower’s alarm sounding. Loss prevention security attempted to apprehend the suspect, who continued to walk past security. CPD Officers quickly assisted security and apprehended both suspects. Ammon and Asti provided CPD Officers with false names to avoid being arrested for their outstanding warrants. Asti was issued a citation for theft, giving false identification to a police officer, and possession of narcotics. Ammons was issued a citation for theft, giving false identification to a police officer, and new notices to appear for her outstanding warrants.
On August 20th, suspect Juan Smith entered a business at the 3600 Block of Junipero Serra Boulevard and stole a cell phone. Smith was confronted by the owner of the cellphone, which resulted in Smith shoving her. As Smith was fleeing the area, he was confronted by the second victim, which resulted in Smith brandishing a knife and then swinging it back and forth in the direction of the victim. Smith fled the area before CPD’s arrival. Shortly after, Smith was located at a business on the 1200 Block of El Camino Real and was taken into custody. Smith was transported into county jail and booked for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing, and possession of a controlled substance.
On August 21st, suspect Jerlene Oliver committed a theft at a business on the 700 Block of Serramonte Boulevard. The store employee attempted to retrieve the property as Oliver was exiting the store when she then bit him on his arm. CPD Officers quickly arrived on scene and detained Oliver as she was attempting to flee on Serramonte Boulevard. The stolen merchandise was recovered on Oliver’s person, and she was transported to the county jail, where she was booked for robbery.
