Crimes Investigated
In May of 2024, we took 85 reports, significantly down from April which had 169 reports. We arrested 40 people for 32 misdemeanors and 8 felonies; issued 286 criminal, traffic, and parking citations; and conducted 167 traffic enforcement stops. Between June 1st and June 17th, we have only taken 63 reports, made 38 arrests, issued 126 citations, and conducted 64 traffic stops.
On May 21st, Colma Officers were dispatched to a business in the 400 block of Serramonte Boulevard on a report of a male causing a disturbance. Officers arrived on scene and contacted a male who matched the description given. Upon contact with the male, he started to yell and scream threats directed at the officers. The manager of the business requested the male be escorted off the property and signed a trespass notification form. Colma Officers attempted to use de-escalation tactics with the male to get him to peacefully leave the property, but the male continued to yell threats and displayed pre-assault indicators. After unsuccessfully getting the male to leave, officers attempted to detain the male. The male actively resisted officers and became combative. Once detained in handcuffs, the male continued to resist and was ultimately placed in restraints to ensure his safety. Terrence Ford, a 58-year-old Oakland resident, was arrested for resisting a peace officer with threats of violence or force, resisting a peace officer and trespassing. He was booked into the San Mateo County Jail.
Between May 21st and May 28th Colma Officers took 27 cases ranging from thefts, narcotic arrests, possession of stolen property cases, warrant arrests, burglaries and various other miscellaneous cases. One case in particular occurred on May 28th.
On May 28th, Colma Officers received a notification from our Flock Safety Automated License Plate Reader in the area of Serramonte Boulevard and Junipero Serra Boulevard, for a vehicle that was associated to a male suspect that committed numerous grand thefts in Colma. Officers responded to the area and located the vehicle parked in the parking lot of a business in the unit block of Colma Boulevard.
Officers contacted the business’ loss prevention officer who reviewed security footage and confirmed the male was inside the business. This male was responsible for a known total loss of approximately $4,781.67 from this business. He was also responsible for multiple grand thefts from similar businesses within San Mateo County and surrounding counties within the Bay Area, with a total loss of over $16,000.00. Colma Officers located the male inside the business and detained him without incident.
James Garcia, a 52-year-old San Francisco resident, was arrested for grand theft, burglary, and organized retail theft with intent to sell. He was booked into the San Mateo County Jail where he is currently awaiting trial.
Later that evening, at approximately 9:49 pm, Colma Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a subject riding an electric motorized scooter in the 3600 block of Junipero Serra Boulevard for a traffic violation. The male on the scooter initially yielded and provided the officer with his name. As the officer was conducting a records check, the male fled from the officer on the scooter. The officer began a pursuit of the male. During the pursuit, the male fell off the scooter and continued to flee from officers on foot. He was detained shortly after on the 100 block of D Street in Daly City. A records check of the male revealed he had a $75,000 felony warrant for his arrest from a neighboring agency. He was placed under arrest for his warrant. During a search incident to arrest, drug paraphernalia and credit cards not belonging to the male were located. Angelo Anello, a 46-year-old San Francisco resident, was arrested for resisting arrest, being in possession of a controlled substance, misappropriation of found property and his felony warrant. He was booked into the San Mateo County Jail. Anello received 10 days in jail and 1 year of probation for this case.
On May 30th, Colma Officers were dispatched to a business in the 5000 block of Junipero Serra Boulevard, on a report of an embezzlement. The business’ loss prevention reported an employee had stolen approximately $4100 within the last month, and they were seeking prosecution. They also stated the employee was on his way to the Colma Police Department to turn themselves in. The employee arrived at the Colma Police Department where he was placed under arrest without incident. Steven Orquiza, a 30-year-old South San Francisco resident, was arrested for grand theft and embezzlement. He was booked into the San Mateo County Jail where he later posted bail and was released.
On June 6th, Colma Officers were dispatched to the unit block of Colma Boulevard on a report of a theft that just occurred. Officers were advised a female had stolen merchandise and fled the scene on foot. Officers arrived on scene and located a female matching the description given. The female was walking southbound on Junipero Serra Boulevard at the intersection of Colma Boulevard. As officers attempted to stop and detain the female, she fled from officers on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, the female was detained without further incident. The female was positively identified by the business’ manager as the female that committed the theft and was placed under arrest. It was later determined the female stole approximately $207.55 worth of merchandise. During a search incident to arrest, several credit cards not belonging to the female were located. Charmaine Carey, a 39-year-old San Francisco resident, was arrested for petty theft, resisting arrest and misappropriation of found property. She was issued a citation for the charges and released on her promise to appear in court.
On June 7th, Colma Officers were dispatched to a business in the 5000 block of Junipero Serra Boulevard on a report of a theft in progress. Officers were advised a known theft suspect had selected merchandise and was running towards the exit of the business. Officers were waiting outside the business and attempted to apprehend the male as he exited. Officers ordered the male to stop, but he disregarded their orders and fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, the male was stopped and detained. As officers attempted to place the male in handcuffs, he actively resisted officers. Once handcuffed, the male continued to actively resist officers and became combative, spitting in the face of an officer. The male continued spitting at the officers and threatened them with physical harm. The male was ultimately placed in restraints to ensure his safety. It was later determined the male stole approximately $185.93 from the business. Dylan Gomez, a 19-year-old San Bruno resident, was arrested for resisting a peace officer with threats of violence or force, resisting a peace officer and petty theft. He was booked into the San Mateo County Jail where he remains in custody.
Between June 7th and June 17th Colma Officers took another 45 cases, ranging from Fraud, assaults, thefts, narcotic arrests, burglaries, and warrant arrests. One series of cases involved an organized theft suspect who stole on various occasions from a local retail establishment. She was identified based on a previous theft ring last year where she was arrested for committing similar crimes. There is a warrant for her arrest from last year’s cases. The cases from this month will be sent down for the issuance of a new warrant for her arrest.
