Marketing & Brand Development, Supporting Retail, and Future Land Use
On June 22, 2022 The City Council accepted a 2-year work plan recommended by the Council’s ad hoc Economic Development Committee and the City Manager. The Fiscal Years 2022-23 & 2023-24 Work Plan (July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2024) is designed to advance the Town’s economic development strategic objectives and further the results achieved under the prior 10-year plan.
On March 22, 2023 the City Council approved the 2023-25 Strategic Plan, which incorporates the economic development work plan as one of five priority areas, with the goal “Marketing & Brand Development, Supporting Retail, and Future Land Use”. Economic development programs are summarized below:
Objectives
1. Land Use* (priority program)
A - Complete the Zoning Code Update (Implement General Plan Update – “GPU”)
B - Engage with Property Owners – GPU Commercial Core Opportunity Sites
C - Facilitate Card Room Expansion Process
D - Advance Hotel Development Feasibility
E - Hillside Blvd. Commercial Overlay District
F - El Camino Real Commercial Overlay District
2. Branding and Marketing
A - Branding Campaign – Conduct Professional Services Procurement Process
B - Determine Feasibility and Process for New Caltrans Signage
C - Develop Options for a New Town-Owned and Operated Freeway Sign
3. Retail Recruitment & Retention
A - Administer The Retail Coach Contract
B - Target New Auto Dealerships
C - Coordinate with Cemeteries and Auto Dealerships to Promote Local Restaurants
D - Process Use Permits in Commercial Districts – Retain, not Replace Retail
4. Events & Communications
A - Continue to Coordinate and Program the Mayor/Chamber Walks, Business Recognition Luncheon, Regular Meetings with Cemeteries and Auto Row Work Groups and Create and Distribute the “Colma Works” Business Newsletter.
B - Continue to Update the Colma “Business” tab and Colma Business Directory on the Town’s Website.
