Sustainable San Mateo County (SSMC) will honor five local sustainability champions and two green buildings at its 26th Annual Awards Celebration on April 3 for their contributions to sustainability in San Mateo County.
Sustainability Awards will go to Caltrain, El Concilio of San Mateo County, the San Mateo County Community College District and the SSMC Youth Sustainability Award winner, Colin Chu, at SSMC’s 26th Annual Awards Celebration on Thursday, April 3, for their contributions to sustainability in San Mateo County.
The Ruth Peterson Award will be presented to longtime SSMC volunteer John Crowell at the event.
SSMC and the American Institute of Architects’ San Mateo County Chapter will present the Green Building Award to San Mateo County Office Building 3 in Redwood City. They will award a Green Building Honorable Mention to the Belle Haven Community Campus in Menlo Park.
Peninsula Clean Energy will present a special award celebrating the visionary leadership and collaborative efforts of local activists, city sustainability staff, local elected officials, and Peninsula Clean Energy and regional partner staff for their tireless work developing and enacting “reach codes” that have not only transformed our region, but are now shaping the future of California’s building standards.
For the past 25 years, SSMC has recognized San Mateo County pioneers who have had a significant impact on the sustainability of our county. A total of 181 individuals and organizations have received awards for improving the sustainability of their communities by addressing critical environmental, economic and social equity issues.
The event will be held at College of San Mateo starting at 5:30 p.m. and includes a hosted reception, dinner, live auction and an inspiring awards recognition program. State Senator Josh Becker will emcee the evening with former Menlo Park Mayor Kirsten Keith, Vice Chair of SSMC.
Tickets are available at bit.ly/SSMC-Awards-Tickets. Individual tickets cost $200; a table of 10 costs $1,900. Sponsorships range from $500 to $10,000 and include benefits. Visit sustainablesanmateo.org/sponsorship-opportunities for details.
